A significant disincentive to a transfer to Linux by the general user is the the lack of some very useful applications. A glaring example is the following:
I want to make the transition from Windows to Ubuntu for my front-line machine which is used for a small business and many other purposes. While many applications can be duplicated or bettered within Ubuntu, the only available clipboard mana Read More »
United Linux distribution is great. Installation of Linux should go like this: If Random J Hacker wants to use Linux, he does not spend weeks in finding a distribution, but simply just download a "net install for GNU/Linux system", chooses the Kernel that fits the age of his machine, chooses kernel modules for his machine to load, chooses desktop, applications, and clicks OK.

there is not one general Linux way of using the linux Gui.

But If I say to my e.q Kde I want to use the double click. I'd Expect all programs to be double click.

Plus if i use some random k* program the program should work the same as the rest of the k* suite.

I think it would be beneficial to have a directory system where the users can submit applications with the name, type, licensing, and a link to the app. If you apply this in groups and subgroups such as office suites, games, audio player, audio editing, etc... this will help both new and more experienced users to find alternative applications for their needs. It would be great if all (or just major) applications used in GNU/Linux are present on this website, so, people who need to start using GNU/Linux operating system know what application to use if they need to get something done. All applications should be described and divided into sections (multimedia, desktop publishing, java development etc.), and linked to main site and repository of that part Read More »
Something i always have lacked is a single place where i can find commercial software for Linux. While i really love open source and the GPL i honestly think there is a place and need for commercial software in some cases. With linux the biggest problem both for those who sell this kind of software and the ones who wants to buy it is to find eachothers.

Its hard to find even very good applica Read More »
Let's show the world, catered to the layman, how they can build--with minimal tools, effort, and know-how--a very powerful, useful, laptop/notebook. It should show a few different brands of easy-to-find, popular-brand, powerful laptop hardware that is fully supported by a popular GNU/Linux distro. Let's show, say, five lists of hardware configs, where we found them, how much they cost, a link t Read More »

I propose an extension for window managers that efficiently generates the impression of different screen object in 3d:
I should work just like in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SImOIMcMlk . Measure a persons head position with a webcam that is nowadays built into most laptops and assign every applications window virtual hight above the desktop. When the user moves the head, the windo Read More »
For GNU and Linux to be adopted by the masses, we must enable and empower the experienced software developers of the world. Many are writing tools and packages behind the scenes for different distros. That's fine. We need more SDKs, quality IDEs, and GUI toolkits, and then it must be easy for programmers to make professional GUI applications. We all know how Microsoft did it over the last 2 deca Read More »
